Q: How Do I Choose Between a Zero-Turn or Stand-On Mower?

When its time to get serious about mowing a property, the first consideration you should have is what mower is going to do the best job. With a huge selection of premium models on the market today, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. The mower you select should be based on two factors: the property being mowed and the storage/transport considerations.

Any mower can do a decent job on any property, but to maximize efficiency and quality of cut, you need to consider the areas you’re going to mow. If the area is hilly, contains many obstacles, or may require debris removal, a stand-on mower is the way to go. You receive better sight lines, tighter maneuverability, and quicker exiting on these models. However if your property is larger, such as a sporting field or municipal lot, a zero-turn will be more comfortable for the extended duration.

The other important consideration is the size of the mower. If you’re a commercial landscaper and need to transport one or more units, stand-on units may be more convenient. Lighter and with a smaller footprint, you can fit more of these units on a trailer. However if you’re a homeowner with a large shed, there is certainly no downside to a larger, heavier zero-turn mower.

In the end, there is no easy answer to this question. Carefully examine the properties you intend to mow before deciding on which model. If you have any questions, our knowledgeable staff is always here to help you choose the model that’s right for you.
